About me:
I provide substantive editing, copyediting, and developmental editing services to academics, non-profit and advocacy organizations, and independent authors. I have extensive experience in the humanities and social sciences, including history, ethnic studies, sociology, public policy, and literature. I edit with careful attention to organization and structure, and I am especially skilled at making complex or technical subjects accessible to a wider audience.
Some of my recent projects have included journal articles, scholarly books, doctoral theses, biographies, textbooks, test prep materials, and general interest non-fiction. I am fully versed in Chicago, MLA and APA guidelines. My foreign languages include Chinese (Mandarin) and French.
In addition to my editorial background, I have 12 years of experience in policy research, writing, design and structured dialogue. As a writer, I have produced grant proposals, reports, articles, scholarly works, information sheets and presentations. I have hands-on experience with layout and design, including fliers, newsletters, reports, and I have strong project management skills.
I am a member of the American Copy Editors Society (ACES), the Editorial Freelancers Association (EFA), and the San Diego Professional Editors Network (which I served as co-president from 2018 to 2020).
